We purchased second-cutting grass/alfalfa hay from Deschepper Farms. Our experiences have been positive in terms of service and the quality of the hay. Communication with the farm was friendly and deliveries arrived on schedule. Hay was stacked efficiently and baling twines remained in place. Cost per bale was consistent with market pricing. Delivery fees were included in the per bale price.
The hay was green and sweet smelling with good leaf quality. Although we have not had the hay analyzed for nutritional content, we estimate the bales averaged of 75 to 80 percent grass with 20 - 25 percent alfalfa. Bales maintained a consistent weight and averaged 10 - 12 good flakes. Individual flakes were easily consumed by the horses (no pawing required) with little to no waste. No mold, dustiness or inedible weed was found in any bale (two separate deliveries of hay).
If required, we would be willing to pay a premium to maintain Deschepper Farms as our hay supplier.
